Andrew Parker (USA)
Dr. Andrew Parker is currently Associate Professor of Oboe at the University of Texas at Austin. Previously he held the Assistant Professor of Oboe position at the University of Iowa. During the course of his career, Andrew has been extremely active as a performer and clinician. He has provided master classes throughout the country and beyond at such institutions as the Royal College of Music in London, the Eastman School of Music, the University of Michigan, Temple University, Rice University, and several others. He has been the guest artist at several double reed events around the country and has performed at numerous International Double Reed Society conventions. He also served as an adjudicator for the Gillet-Fox International Oboe Competition, the National Youth Orchestra, hosted by Carnegie Hall, and the Texas Lyricism Competition.
In addition to his robust pedagogical profile, Andrew maintains a versatile career as an orchestral musician, soloist, and chamber player. He has appeared as a guest soloist with the Quad City Symphony, the Great Falls Symphony, the Puerto Rico Philharmonic, and numerous collegiate ensembles. He has also played in many orchestras in North America, including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Florida Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony, the Richmond Symphony, and the Santa Fe Symphony to name a few. He has served as principal oboe of the Great Falls Symphony for two seasons and currently holds the principal oboe position of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra.
Andrew has also performed, taught, and coached chamber music at various international music festivals, including the Round Top Music Festival, Music in the Mountains, Oboe Fest in San Juan, FEMUSC festival in Brazil, the Hartwick Festival in New York, and the Kinhaven Music School in Vermont.
Andrew’s solo album, The Singing Oboe, was released under the MSR Records label in 2014. The album was featured on two occasions as CD of the week on the Boston station 99.5 WCRB. He also released an album entitled Portraits in Music which presents underperformed works for oboe, bassoon, and piano. His third album, Handel: The “Halle” Sonatas, HWV 380-385, is a collection of Handel trio sonatas he recorded with Nancy Ambrose King, Kristin Wolfe Jensen, and Jonathan Rhodes Lee.
Andrew received his education at the Eastman School of Music, Yale University, and the University of Michigan.
