Competition Guidelines

~ Arizona International Music Competition is open to all the instrumentalists and singers of all ages and all nationalities.

~ AIMC offers solo competition, concerto competition, piano duet competition, vocal competition, and chamber music competition.

~ Contestant can enter in multiple competitions (i.e. solo and concerto) and/or multiple categories (i.e. keyboard and string).

~ A separate application form and fee is required for multiple entries.

~ Application form, application fee, and videos must all be submitted online before the application deadline.

~ Application fee is non-refundable.

~ Repertoire changes will not be permitted following the submission of the videos.

~ 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and merit prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the judges.

~ Grand prize winners will be awarded cash prizes at the discretion of the judges.

~ All the prize winners and participants will receive comments and either a certificate of recognition or a certificate of participation in email.

~ All of our judges are world-renowned artists in their field of expertise, and the winners are chosen at their discretion.

~ The decisions made by the judges are final and cannot be overturned.

~ If the judge enters a student in a specific category of the competition, then this judge will not participate in the jury panel of that category.

~ The performances of the grand prize and first-place winners in each category will be featured on our YouTube channel.

~ Winners will be posted on our website.


Repertoire Guidelines

~ Instrumental competition selections should be chosen from the standard repertoire: baroque, classical, romantic, impressionistic, or contemporary periods.

~ Vocal competition selections should be chosen from one of the following divisions:

  1. Classical Division: Opera/Art Song/Oratorio Aria (Classical composition from the standard baroque, classical, romantic, impressionistic, or contemporary periods)

  2. Musical Theater Division: Broadway/Off-Broadway/Disney Shows

  3. Popular Division: Jazz/R&B/Folk/Country/Pop Songs

~ There are no repertoire time requirements in this competition.

~ Cuts are not permitted, except for the orchestral parts/tutti of concertos. Performances that contain cuts will be disqualified.

~ One movement of sonatinas, sonatas, suites, or partitas is considered as one piece.

~ Repeats are not required.


Video Guidelines

  • Formal performance attire is recommended.

  • Videos can not be edited or enhanced in anyway.

  • Videos must be recorded from one fixed camera angle, showing entire upper or full body of the entrants with clarity.

  • Videos should be in horizontal format.

  • Videos must have good sound quality, cell phone and tablet recordings are welcome.

  • Judging will base solely on the quality of the performances.

  • Competition pieces could be recorded one at a time. if you have 2 selections, you can submit with two different links, or combine two recordings together as one video and submit with one link.

  • Videos should be labeled with the name and the category of the entrant, the title of the piece, and the name of the composer.

  • No announcement of the entrant names and the titles of the pieces performed in the videos.

  • Videos must be submitted with YouTube links or sharable links: Google Drive, Baidu Cloud, or QQ.

The participation in the competition entails that participants agree to forfeit the right to any financial compensation consideration. Pertaining to any future publication and/or distribution of music video recordings on the internet.

By participating in the Arizona International Music Competition, participants accept all conditions set forth above.
