Laura Cherici (Italy)

Laura Cherici is a Voice Professor and taught at the “Giuseppe Martucci” Conservatoire in Salerno, “Niccolò Piccini” in Bari, “Gesualdo da Venosa” in Potenza, ISSM “Claudio Monteverdi” in Cremona, and “Giovan Battista Martini” in Bologna, Italy. She was invited as Visiting Guest Professor at the Opera Department of the “Niccolò Piccinni” Conservatoire in Bari with a Workshop on the Baroque opera repertoire. Currently she teaches at the Conservatoire “Cesare Pollini” in Padova, Italy. She held Masterclasses in Italy and Finland.

Laura Cherici made her first appearance at Teatro Regio in Turin in Der Rosenkavalier, Carmen, Aida, and then as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro under the baton of Gustav Kuhn.

In 1997 she sang at the Münchner Philarmoniker season opening concert in the role of Lisette "La Rondine" with G.Gelmetti. She sang the same role also to the Opera Theater in Roma and to the Sydney Opera House.

She often performed Susanna "Le nozze di Figaro" (Regio Torino, Opera Roma, Deutsche Opera am Rhein di Düsseldorf, Festival de la Musique di Strasburgo, Carlo Felice Genova, Filarmonico Verona), Zerlina "Don Giovanni" (Scala Milano, Comunale Bologna, Opera Roma, Regio Torino, Teatro Filarmonico Verona), Despina "Così fan tutte"(Teatro Lauro Rossi Macerata, Teatro Nazionale Roma) and Pamina/Papagena "Die Zauberflöte" (Teatro Carlo Felice Genova, Teatro Bellini Catania, Teatro dell'Opera Roma, Piazza del Popolo Roma).

In the BAROQUE REPERTOIRE she sang Melanto -"Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria" (Conductor T.Pinnock) and Drusilla - "L'incoronazione di Poppea" (conductor I.Bolton) Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Checca "Flaminio" to the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli (Conductor S.Accardo), to the Fondazione Pergolesi-Spontini in Jesi and to the Beaune Festival under the baton of Ottavio Dantone; Giannetta “Le cantatrici villane” Teatro San Carlo Napoli.

She sang in Vienna with Giardino Armonico conductor Giovanni Antonini in a concert with music by Vivaldi, Händel and Fux, broadcast by the ORF in Eurovision and to the Innsbruck Festwochen in the opera "Dal male il bene". ln 2006 she sang the role of Martesia in "Ercole su'l Termodonte" by Vivaldi to the Spoleto Festival under the baton of Alan Curtis and the mise on scene by J.Pascoe. With Alan Curtis she recorded the roles of Amanzio and La Fortuna in "Il Giustino" by Vivaldi, Tigrane in "Radamisto" by Händel and Morgana/Oberto in "Alcina".

In 2008 she sang to the Lufthansa Festival in London interpreting, with personal success, the role of Esilena in "Rodrigo" (conductor F.Bardazzi) and, conducted by Curtis, Calisto in "Giove in Argo". Both the operas are by Händel.

In 2010 she recorded with Il Rossignolo the world premiere "Germanico", opera discovered by M°Ottaviano Tenerani attributed to Händel, in the role of Antonia. She was a successful Teutile in "Motezuma" by Vivaldi to the Teatro Sao Carlo di Lisbona, Teatro Arriaga di Bilbao and the theaters of Ferrara, Piacenza and Modena. She also sang Ginevra in "Ariodante" by Händel to the Spoleto Festival.

She sang in the production of "Ein Sommernachtsträume" by Mendelsshon to the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona with the etoile Eleonora Abbagnato and “Pulcinella” by I. Stravinsky, to Teatro San Carlo - Napoli in 2017 and 2019.

She made her debut to the Concergebouw in Amsterdam in "L'Orlando paladino" by Haydn and, in 2013, in "La scala di seta" under the baton of Alessandro De Marchi. Her Vannella was successful in "Lo frate 'nnamorato" to the Teatro Pergolesi in Jesi conducted by Fabio Biondi. In 2013 she sang the "Santa Flavia Domitilla" Oratory by Antonio Caldara in collaboration with the Rossignolo, first performance in modern times.

In the CONTEMPORARY REPERTOIRE she was involved in several worldwide premieres: "Vite Immaginarie" (performances in Bologna, Modena, Firenze, Parma, Roma, Milano, Como, Reggio Emilia, Trento, Bolzano, Merano) "La lupa", "Vita", "Il gatto con gli stivali" and "Federico II" by Marco Tutino, "Canzoni d'amore" by Lorenzo Ferrero, "Amin" by Matteo D'Amico, "Rimini addio!" by Carlo Boccadoro, "La brocca rotta" by Flavio Testi, "La Tempesta" by Carlo Galante with the “mise en scene” by Giancarlo Cobelli. She sang Stella Kovalski in "A Streetcar named Desire" by Andrè Previn (conductor Steven Mercurio, direction Giorgio Gallione Regio di Torino) and, in 2013, Mrs.Grose in "The Turn of the Screw" by Britten (Conductor Jonathan Webb direction Giorgio Marini).

In June 2019 she was one of the protagonists of the successful tournée in Japan with the Teatro Comunale - Bologna in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” and “Rigoletto” in the cities of Tokyo, Nagoya, Otsu, Osaka, Fukuoka e Yokohama.

She has strong interest in the vocal chamber music repertoire and she gave many recitals as “Rocklied” (alla ricerca del classico nel pop) with music by Beatles, A.Lennox, K. Bush, S.Wonder, Al Jarreau and “Suono, Sogno, Swing”, music by Porter and Gershwin, with Antonio Ballista, “Kaleidoscope”(I mille colori della musica dal Barocco al Musical) with Massimo Giuseppe Bianchi, “ Love Passion and Springtime” with Nicola Ventrella and “Scent of Italy” with Nazareno Ferruggio.

On the occasion of Rossini’s 150th anniversary, she was a guest of Italian Culture Institute in Lima and Santiago del Cile with the concert “Rossini!” in collaboration with M° Nicola Ventrella.

In 2009 she received the “Gianni Poggi” award for her performance as Teutile in “Motezuma”, opera composed by Antonio Vivaldi.

She has recorded cd’s and dvd’s for Decca, Deutsche Grammophone, Dynamic, Forlane, Sony Classical, Sony Deutsche Armonia Mundi, Unitel Classica, Virgin Classic, Vergin Veritas.

She wrote the book “ESERCIZI PER IL RISCALDAMENTO E L’EDUCAZIONE DELLA VOCE” (“EXERCISES FOR VOCAL WARM-UP AND TRAINING”) – Ut Orpheus Editori (2021)
